After playing in the snow we loaded up to head to Nanie and Pop's house. Sterling had so much fun, as always, playing with his cousins! We spent the afternoon in Sylacauga then headed back home to go to church Sunday morning. Then headed back to Sylacauga to see Alex's extended family. Are you starting to see what I mean about being in the car a lot? I guess I shouldn't complain, my parents had to back us all in the car every Christmas night and head 10 hours from East Texas to Huntsville every year. Even though It may have seemed like it, I know we weren't in the car for 20 hours! And of course it was all worth it!!
Monday we headed home for a few days of relaxation (sort of) Sterling got to play with his new toys and Alex and I started the process of trading beds and moving furniture around for his new "Big Boy" room. We are keeping the nursery the same, just adding some pink, and Sterling is moving across the hall. So for two days we changed our guest room/office into a room for Sterling. We are having to become very creative with space and we really need to finish those Queen Ann chairs I started a while back so we have more places to sit. But Sterling is loving his new room. (More on that later).
Anyway, Wednesday we headed back to Sylacauga (yes back) loaded with our guest bed on a trailer to set up at my mom's house, that way we no longer have to kick Jameson, who is always a good sport, out of his room when we come. My grandmother from Texas, Memaw, was heading for Texas for a visit and we arrived shortly after she did.
Memaw is an amazing quilter and seamstress but she has a real passion for quilting. We have been trying to get her to start a business for years. Anyway, when looking for bedding for Sterling's room months ago, I found this adorable quilt at Pottery Barn.
Before I clicked add to cart, I had an epiphany, why don't I see if Memaw wants to make it for Sterling. I wanted something that is neutral and will grow with him through whatever phases of room decor he might desire, so I am planning on using it in his room for years anyway. Now he won't just have a cute quilt, he will have a sweet keepsake from his grandmother as well. I called her up and she thought it was a wonderful idea. So upon her arrival we started quilt making. We also started cooking because Mom wanted to wait to have Christmas dinner for when Memaw was there. So we ate a huge Christmas dinner complete with Greenberg Turkey on New Year's Eve. We baked Christmas cookies and Sterling and KerKer played with KerKer's new toy to himself, a Polar Express Train.
We always had a train that went around the tree growing up and my Dad always loved it. But I didn't quite remember how much my father loves trains until Sterling started liking them as well. Let's just say he gets it honestly.

Sterling and Memaw
KerKer got Sterling a train for his birthday. Since he won't be here this weekend he went ahead and gave it to him. This one was a bit more his size. It has a controller too, and is still a little hard for Sterling to work, so that means KerKer has to play with him, which means hours of engineering time together. I thought Dad was crazy for getting this, but after watching the two of them play trains all day for days on end I see that it was just as much for his own entertainment, kind of like fathers who get gaming consoles for the "children." The thing is, like most of us know, men never really grow up. They all never make it much past 5 and still love playing with toys, so when a child comes along it is an excuse for them to play again.

Throwing those popper things. He was scared at first but after doing the first one he loved it.
