Sterling still does not like being on his tummy. I think he will be more fond of tummy time when he learns to crawl. But until then he is not letting that get in the way of his mobility. I needed to grab something the other day and I just laid him down on the hardwood floor. I usually don't just put him on the floor in the living room because now that he can roll over I don't want him to bang his head (he is still kind of spastic when he rolls over). So I looked over at him and he was wiggling his shoulders and kicking his feet, and before we knew it he was moving halfway across the floor. It was so funny. Of course like always when I went to get the camera he stopped performing. However, we tried again several times, and I finally got a little snippet on camera.

Favorite Things Fridays
I LOVE Disney. Growing up I think the only TV I watched was Sesame Street and Disney movies. We like the classics and growing up we had all of the movies! We also loved those free Disney weekends, when Disney Channel broadcast to everyone for free. We eventually got the Disney Channel, and if the TV was on it was on Disney. Back then they showed those great kids cartoons like Mickey Mouse, Whinnie the Pooh, Duck Tales, Chip and Dale, Tale Spin. They were after-school favs. We eventually stopped watching Disney Channel when it started showing all these "real" shows. (As kids any movie that wasn't a cartoon - with "real people" - we referred to as a "real movie" for example we had the Rogers and Hammerstien version of Cinderella and Disney's Cinderella. So we referred to them as "Cinderella" and "The Real Cinderella")
Anyway, a few years ago I stumbled onto the Disney Movie Club. It's like one of those book or music clubs only obviously they sell Disney Movies. I knew I would be buying Disney movies once our kids came along, but when I was honest with myself and realized that I really wanted them for me too! When I signed up I got five or six DVDs for $30. Then you have to buy four or five more over the course of two years at regular price (which I would have done anyway). After that you are a Disney Movie Club VIP and you great deals on Disney movies. A few months ago I wanted to get Sterling the Baby Einstein movies. I bought one at regular price and the rest were five dollars! They have Disney movies, TV shows, everything! They have all of those older Disney Channel shows that we grew up watching. I have gotten so many DVDs and saved so much money through this program. One more great thing about Disney is if your disk gets scratched or broken, you can send the disk back with the original case and they will replace it. All you have to do is pay shipping!
The only catch is, once you become a Disney VIP they send out a movie each month. They will send out an email to announce what the movie is and what deals they have going. All you have to do is go to Disney's site and tell them you do not want it if you don't. But if you forget to do this they will automatically send it to you. I have forgotten to do this a few months, and as long as you don't open the package you can return to sender and they will refund your money. However, after doing this a few times you get a nice little note in the mail that asks you to please cancel the movie of the month if you don't want it.
If you are interested in doing this too let me know and give me your email. I will give Disney your name and email address and they will send you the info. You can go to their website too but if you decide to join through me they will give me a free movie.

Kitchen
Here's a couple of pictures of the kitchen. We had a lot of work. When we bought the house it had very worn linoleum floors and ugly green laminate countertops and backsplash. We had the floor tiled, granite tile countertops put in, and a new backsplash. We replaced the brass nobs on the cabinets and still have more work to do. But here is what it looks like at this point.

Happy Father's Day
Happy Father's Day! I wanted to wish the fathers in my life a wonderful Father's Day.
I wanted to first wish a Happy Father's Day my father! The Lord has been so gracious in providing me with such a wonderful example of our Heavenly Father. He has been so gracious to allow me to have a father who gives me such a true picture of His own character. There has never been a moment that I have doubted my daddy's love, he has always given it abundantly and unconditionally. Bringing up a family of three girls and only one boy couldn't have been easy, but he always took it in stride, he spent much more time attending tea parties and putting hair in pony tails than he did camping and playing ball.
I appreciate not only being secure in his love for me, but always being sure of his love for my mom. Not many children have the privilege of knowing that their parents treasure one another and love each other passionately.
He has always been such an example of both patience and strength. He is always quick to listen and slow to speak. We learned early that Daddy was not a man of many words, but when he had something to say we took it to heart because it was full of wisdom. He has always been an example of trusting the Lord above earthly reason.
Of course Dad isn't perfect, but I am so thankful to have him as a father. I know I take this blessing for granted so often, because having a godly father (having an involved father at all) in our society is so very rare. Thank you Daddy for all that you do for us.
It has been so amazing to watch Alex become a father. I have seen so many couples let their children come between their own relationship, but having Sterling has just made me love him even more.

Thank you for providing for our family, for being content with what we have and allowing me to stay home and be a mommy. Thank you for being our protector. I know you would do whatever it took to protect your family physically, but more importantly, for protecting us spiritually through prayer. Thank you for expecting much morally from our children, even now. I love seeing your face light up when you play with Sterling. I am so excited to continue to watch you lovingly shepherd our family. Not only all of this, but you are always so willing to help me in my job of being mommy and keeping the home. I appreciate all of the little things you do to make my job so much easier. I couldn't do it without you. You are our rock, we depend on you so much more than you realize. I hope each Father's Day continues to get better with time.

Sterling's Nursery
I have had many requests to post pictures of our new home. It is obviously still a work in progress since we have only been here about a month. So, I thought I would go through and post room by room. Sterling's room is mostly complete, and the cleanest :), so I thought I would start there.

I hope he likes to read! When you are a teacher you end up with a lot of books. That shelf is stuffed full!
This dresser I did before Sterling was born.
I love having double closets and this toy box/window seat. I'm going to paint the toy box white to match the trim (one of these days).
Sterling's crib. My mom and I made the bedding. It was a chore but I LOVE it. My favorite feature is the dust ruffle. We made it so that each panel can come off as I lower the mattress. We just safety pinned it so that it will be easy to put back on for the next baby. And I am so glad that my mom talked me into making big ties. It turned out to be my favorite part.
He still has blank walls. I am trying to decide what to put on them. I just found my paints so I am going to do a canvas with his name on it, but other than that I'm still not sure what to do. I did start a painting of him before we left Tuscaloosa. Maybe when I finish, that will go up as well.

A Few Favorite Things Fridays
Now that I am home all the time, have consistent internet, and a baby who can entertain himself for good periods of time I am feeling that I will be able to pull this blog thing off. One of the things I want to start doing is sharing some of my favorite things. So now introducing "A Few Favorite Things Fridays." It was going to be titled "These are a Few of My Favorite Things Fridays" inspired by one of my favorite movies The Sound of Music, but that is a mouthful!
I love researching an item before I make a big purchase, which to me is something that costs more than about $30 :) . I like to make sure that what I am getting is the best for the money - especially if it will be used frequently - so I will research customer reviews until I make what I think is a good decision. So, I have decided to start out sharing some of my favorite products. If you are like me, maybe this will save you some valuable time and effort.
So without further ado:
We have gone through several bathing apparatuses for Sterling. We started out in a one bathroom apartment, so we needed something that wouldn't take up a lot of space. We got this fold up bathtub that was a great space saver, but it required two people to hold Sterling up when he was a small infant. When he got a little bigger we had a few weeks that it worked really well, then he started kicking and bowing his back and it once again required someone to hold him down and someone to bathe him. Then we got this cloth seat that would fold up, still needing something that would save space, I thought it would be perfect. And it did work a few times. Then Sterling learned he could kick against that too, and I was afraid he would fall out and into the big bathtub full of water.
When we moved into our house getting a good bathtub was high on my priority list. My mom found this one at Wal-Mart for about $20.
It is from First Years and I love it. Sterling sits up great in it and doesn't fall. It also has a toddler seat if you wanted to use that, and I think you can buy it one of those infant hammock things as well. Also, that little grove underneath fits on the kitchen sink so that you can use it there too. We have not used that option, but I think it was a clever idea. Sterling loves it. He can splash and kick all he wants, and I can bathe him all by myself again. Hurray!

Look Alike
When Sterling was born he looked just like Alex. I mean you can take pictures from both of their baby books mix them up and not be able to but them back. However, the more he grows the more I see myself in him. I was looking through my baby pictures when I was around his age and found these pictures. Some of my faces are exactly the same as his. We don't have the exact matches caught on camera but here are some of him and me that are close.

Five Months Old
Sterling turned five months this past weekend while we were at the lake celebrating Pop's (Alex's dad) birthday. He is growing up so fast, and he gets sweeter everyday. Sterling is still a very laid back baby. He still loves to be held, as long as you are holding him he is very content. He doesn't need much entertainment and loves observing his surroundings. He still loves watching Baby Einstein and Praise Baby DVDs. Now he will actually sit and watch other things on the TV as well. I try to limit his TV time, but if I have it on something as I am getting things done I will catch him watching. Of course he will watch the fan spinning for an extended period of time as well. He loves his new exersaucer/jumper we just got for him. He figured out how to hit the buttons to make the music come on, and that is definately his favorite thing to do in it. (I can actually hear it going right now.) He can also roll over from tummy to back. However, ever since conception Sterling has not been one to show off his tricks so it is really hard to get him to do it - especially since he still hates tummy time!

TEXAS!
Last Sunday night we headed to Texas to see my grandmother. Sterling did so well on the trip down there. He slept pretty much the entire way. However, on the way back he had gotten a stuffy nose and wasn't feeling well. So, the trip home was not so pleasant.
We arrived early Monday morning after a ten hour drive through the night. We had a wonderful visit with my grandmother who hadn't seen Sterling since he was born. She came to Alabama a few days before he was born so that she could be there for the birth. We all went to the hospital the day I was induced and she was admitted to the hospital there in Tuscaloosa right before my surgery with severe COPD. She had been a smoker for many, many years and was hospitalized for two weeks. Since she was not able to smoke during her hospital stay, she went home a FORMER smoker. Her health has improved tremendously, and we are all so proud of her! We stayed to the end of the week and, it was so great to be able to go back and visit the great state of Texas.
I grew up in East Texas. We moved the day after my thirteenth birthday, so I can still say I have lived there for over half of my life. Every time I talk about Texas, Alex makes fun of me. It is true what they say about Texan pride. I don't know what it is about us, but we are very proud of our state. Of course, it is the best state so what is there not to be proud of. Plus, I don't think any other state makes sure the children know the state bird, tree, flower, slogan, history, and song by the time they leave the first grade. And all of you that make fun of that are just jealous that you did not grow up there! :)
We were able to eat Tex-Mex while we were there. And for all of you who haven't had Mexican food in Texas, WOW are you missing out! They start you out with chips and salsa (standard, I know), then they bring out the free tortillas and butter, by the time you get your food you are barely hungry but you practically like the plate because it is so good, then they bring out some more free food - sopapias and don't forget the free soft serve ice cream cones on the way out! I can still taste it. If I could live there again one day, I think I would eat Dairy Queen for lunch everyday and Mexican for supper. DQ is not the same anywere else either by the way. I don't even eat regular food at DQ in Alabama, but in Texas, oh it is so good!

Sterling's Baptism
"For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself."
We have loved the past five months of parenthood. Everyday I grow more and more in love with our beautiful little boy, and with the loving God who created him. Last Sunday we were thrilled to celebrate the Covenant Baptism of our son. Our family was able to attend as well and we all had lunch at our home afterward.
Our Dear Sterling,
The Lord has been so gracious to your Daddy and I. Our hearts rejoiced when we first met you, and they are still singing God's praises for the joy that you have brought us. Your precious smile reminds us that we serve such a loving God. He has made you perfectly, in His image, fearfully and wonderfully made. Everything about you was for a purpose. We cannot imagine our lives with out our sweet Sterling.
Our prayer is that he will be gracious to you, calling you out of darkness into his marvelous light. We baptize you today as a sign of the covenant God has made to us His children. We pray fervently that he will begin to draw your heart even now to Himself.
We vow today before you, the church, and before the Lord our God that we will endeavor to set before you a Godly example, that we will pray with you and for you, that we will teach you the doctrine of the Christian faith, and that we will strive by all means of God's appointment to bring you up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. We do not take this vow lightly, and we will strive to uphold our vow by God's grace everyday of your life. We recognize that our vows will not save you. There is nothing we can do to give you salvation, just as there is nothing you can do to earn it. Salvation is from the Father, through Christ alone. We rely humbly on His power and His power alone for your regeneration. Even so, we will strive everyday to help you to understand what our Savior has done, and we will pray continually that the Lord will allow you to to understand.
We pray not only for your salvation, but we pray that you will grow into a man of the great I AM. Your name is our hearts' desire for your life, Pure Defender. We pray that you would be a defender of the Word and that your life would be an example of the purity that comes from obeying the Word and being consumed by it.
Our precious son on the day we dedicate you unreservedly to the Lord, our challenge to you is this, love the Lord with all of your heart, mind, soul, and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself.

Busy, Busy, Busy
May was such a whirlwind of events. Here is a little update:
We have been working non-stop on our new home. About a month ago the work began with replacing all of the floors except for the hardwoods in the living room and hallways, replacing the countertops and backsplash, and replacing the shower in the master bedroom with a tub. Instead of taking a week like it was supposed to, it took about two and a half. When we came home from the beach the night before Mother's Day, we spent our first night in our new home on the dining room floor, because our carpet had not been laid in the bedrooms. After all of the floors were done the next week, we were able to finish painting and begin moving everything from the garage inside. We were working hard to get finished in time to have our families over for Sterling's baptism last Sunday. So, we have been working from the time we get up, to the time we go to bed on top of keeping a four-month-old entertained. Needless to say, we have had our hands full! Thankfully our family has been more than willing to help. Actually, having a date to be done was such a blessing. Alex and I both work better under pressure, so we are able to get just about everything done.
We spent a relaxing Memorial Day weekend at Alex's parent's lake house. We were in the middle of getting everything done on the house. So this weekend came at the perfect time. Alex is off on Fridays so we went down to the lake for a few days of relaxing on Thursday night. We came back late Saturday and worked on the house all day on Monday.
The Saturday before Sterling's baptism we had the wedding of a dear friend and roommate my freshmen year in Tuscaloosa. The wedding was beautiful, and Amy was a gorgeous bride. Then we had to hurry home to get everything ready for the next day.
That Sunday Sterling, my mom and I went to Texas to see my grandmother for the week. When we got back we drove strait to the lake for Pop's birthday (Alex's dad).
Finally, we have a bit of a break and can relax for a few days before it all starts up again!

Alex and I both work better under pressure, so we are able to get just about everything done.
We spent a relaxing Memorial Day weekend at Alex's parent's lake house. We were in the middle of getting everything done on the house. So this weekend came at the perfect time. Alex is off on Fridays so we went down to the lake for a few days of relaxing on Thursday night. We came back late Saturday and worked on the house all day on Monday.
The Saturday before Sterling's baptism we had the wedding of a dear friend and roommate my freshmen year in Tuscaloosa. The wedding was beautiful, and Amy was a gorgeous bride. Then we had to hurry home to get everything ready for the next day.
That Sunday Sterling, my mom and I went to Texas to see my grandmother for the week. When we got back we drove strait to the lake for Pop's birthday (Alex's dad).
Finally, we have a bit of a break and can relax for a few days before it all starts up again!
