We had Sterling's first birthday party Saturday and it was so much fun. My mom and dad came Friday so that Dad could play with Sterling and mom could help me bake and decorate. We decided that cupcakes would be easier than making a big cake. WRONG!! They were so cute but took FOREVER! I was also going to buy Sterling's cake but we decided that since we were making cupcakes his cake would be no big deal, that was actually true.
We made about six or seven batches of icing and about 60 cupcakes. I wasn't sure how many we would have and our philosophy is always more is better than not enough. This is what our kitchen looked like after about an hour, I wish I had taken one after we were done but it was really late.
By the end of the night most of the counter top was white from powdered sugar flying up everywhere.
We had his party in the garage. Alex did such a great job cleaning it up and getting it ready for the party. It was in the 30s, but surprisingly two small space heaters working all morning made it very comfortable.
It was a circle themed party because that is his favorite shape!
Sterling didn't like the ball pit very much. At least Charlie did!
look at those fat cheeks!
And now what I know you have been waiting for. The Cake. Sterling did not disappoint, he put on a great show!
The first one on this row is of Sterling saying "more". In the last one it looks like he ate half of the cake, but most of that is on the tray. Aunt Hillary stabbed the cake so that he could get into the middle.
All clean!

The picture does not do the kitchen justice! I do not believe I have ever worked in a kitchen that dirty - as we all know I like to clean as I go! But it was SO much fun - thanks for letting me help! And it was a great "circle" party!! Happy Birthday my precious little one year old! KiKi loves you!!!!
I forgot to mention - I love the sign on the dishwasher that says "dirty" in the picture of the disaster we had made of the kitchen! So appropriate!
ADORABLE, BETHANY!! What a FANTASTIC idea for a theme. . . and loved the variety of circle edibles. Way to go on the cupcakes and cake. You started off your babies' birthday parties right! Setting the bar high for yourself for upcoming years :)
