Ann Elizabeth

Ann Elizabeth is growing up so much!  She is so girly, she always has a bag or a doll in her hands.  She got a bag of hair products for Christmas, play hair dryer, curling iron, makeup, etc.  And she loves it.  She goes around drying everyone's hair, or brushing it, or straightening it.  She still loves playing with all of her brother's things, but she is a prissy little girl through and through.

She is also talking so much more.  She is able to string together words and make a few sentences.  It is not always possible to make out what she says but usually we can get it.

She is already so motherly, which is so funny to watch.  She loves baby dolls.  She will also give Sterling a look on occasion, that I know she has seen me give, and say, "Sterning, Stop dat."  She also mothers him in sweet ways too though.  Many times she will try to help me wash his hair in the bathtub, which he kindly lets her.  She keeps us laughing all day for sure!  My favorite thing is when she just randomly comes up to us and says, "ugg" which means hug, and then says, "I yuv yoo."  This is something Sterling started initiating himself probably within the last few months (probably since he's seen her).  After learning to walk, she was always on the go, but as of late she loves a good snuggle, especially if we will let her watch "Rella" Cinderella which is her favorite movie.  She says, "Watch Rella" almost every day.

One of Ann Elizabeth's Christmas gifts this year was her big girl bedding. I found exactly what I had wanted in my head at TJ Maxx, what are the chances?  I don't think I had actually seen the bedding anywhere, I was just thinking a pink and green paisley would be so cute.  Well about last September I found it, and if you find something you want at TJ Maxx you've got to snatch it up.  So at those great prices, I actually snatched up two, just in case we have a little girl coming to live with us in the future. :)  No we don't know anything like sex, I just realized after I had my grandmother make Sterling a quilt and the fabric then was discontinued always think about the future!  So if we are going to need some girly bunk beds in the future we're set.

The bedding was killing me just sitting in the closet, and so we decided after Christmas to try her in a big girl bed.  So far she has done beautifully.  We moved Sterling over at this age as well because we set his bed up a bit before Ann Elizabeth was born thinking we would maybe ease him over.  I thought we would let him just start taking naps at first in the bed, and I knew room decor wouldn't happen much with a newborn.  He wasn't having that, he begged to be in his big boy room, so we tried and he did great.  However, with Ann Elizabeth I had apprehensions.  The way I finally convinced myself to try was that she still cannot open doors yet, so if she did get up, she would have to stay in her room.  However, no worries so far, she hasn't even attempted, she hasn't really even stood up in it after this first week.

I made the bed skirt out of tulle obviously.  It was so easy but it takes a ton of tulle.  I bought a whole bolt, 40 yards, and used almost all of it (well I haven't done the sides yet so maybe all) but I made it very full because I want to store things under it.  This full you can't see a thing!  All I did is cut it in seven inch strips, double the length to the floor and did a tie where you fold it in half and loop it around a piece of twine. My husband says it's a hitch.  Then I just tied each end to the frame of the bed, and then zip tied it all along the length to springs that make up the frame (benefits to having a daybed, no box springs).  Here is a picture:
When we are done with the rail I will untuck the quilt.

I also did a little organizing in the closet, which is why I had zip ties at my disposal, which I am now wondering why I don't always have some.  In our kids rooms they both have two closets.  Which is nice, I usually keep the off season's clothing in the spare closet.  Ann Elizabeth's was getting out of control.  She has so much stuff from last year that may fit next year and then some things that were too big last year too.  Resulting in this:
I've seen those hangers that are supposed to save space and always wondered if they work.  After learning they sell them at Walmart now I read some reviews to see if they really work.  The only complaint was that the plastic hooks they hang by are flimsy.  But one reviewer said that you could just use zip ties instead and cut them down when you are done.  Since I will only be getting stuff out of this closet on occasion I decided not being able to remove them wasn't a big deal.  While I wouldn't say they save a ton of space, I still think I couldn't squeeze anything in this closet, it does make it easier to see what you have and easier to get clothes in and out, so they are staying.

I also made a new wreath for her door out of repurposed ribbons from a mobile ribbon over her crib.  I'm just realizing I didn't take a picture of the wreath, which turned out so cute, but here is the plaque in the center.

I also just painted some pictures similar to some I've seen online, however, I was not willing to pay $120 for a print, so I decided to do my own, plus I was able to make them a bit more toddler looking.  Being a vertical picture, I thought it needed two if it were going over the bed.  So again, I decided if we are going to get a girl, she will already have her own ballerina on the wall. :)
