2 1/2

Sterling is now officially 2 1/2 as of last Wednesday.  What is he up to you ask?  One word CARS.  Since Christmas there is usually only one movie playing in our house "My Race Car Movie" (a.k.a. Cars).  Sterling even went to see the Cars 2 movie in the movie theater.  It was his first time, and he loved it!  We carry cars around with us everywhere, and if it isn't a car it may become one with a little imagination.

Speaking of imagination it is so fun watching Sterling's blossom.  He pretends a lot now.  It is so cute watching him make his cars talk to one another.  Sterling has the little die cast cars of the characters from the movie Cars (of course), kind of like Matchbox cars.  Of course we have Lightning McQueen and then we acquired a few more Lightning McQueens such as "Muddy McQueen" and "Cars 2 McQueen"  So Sterling set up an argument with his Lightning McQueens that went like this:

"I'm Lightning McQueen"
"No, I'm Lightning McQueen"
"No, I'M Lightning McQueen"
"No you're not, I'm Lightning McQueen"
"No you're not, I'M Lightning McQueen"
"NU UH I'M Lightning McQueen"

Since Ann Elizabeth has been watching some Baby Einstein, Sterling will watch it with her.  We have discovered he LOVES Baby Einstein just as much as he did as a baby.  But now he has the songs memorized so he goes around humming classical music, which is so sweet.  He also recognizes the music from other toys that play the same pieces so as soon as Beethoven's 5th comes on he runs around the house finding the toys that play the same.

His answer to every question these days is either "I don't know" (even when he really does, which is usually) or "what ____"  For example,
"Let's go get in the car"
"What car"
"The van"
"What van"
"Our van, silly"
"What, our van"
or
"What kind of sandwich do you want for lunch"
"What lunch"

I mean how do you respond to that?  I really don't think he even does it on purpose most of the time.  I think a lot of it is an absentminded answer which makes it even more frustrating.

All around he is still a happy-going kind of boy, although the "terrible twos" rear their ugly head quite often.  I am ready for this "battle of the wills" stage to be over.  Though I know it is never fully over, I know it also does get better, at least until puberty.  But that stage scares the daylights out of me so I won't think on that right now.  Right now I will enjoy my sweet 2 1/2 year old boy.
