So I never got around to what I've been up to. First going with the old fashioned make-your-own laundry detergent theme, I've been trying to go more natural where I can and less chemicals. So, I've made my own cleaner. I was using vinegar and water. But I was needing a little more, and it doesn't work on glass very well. So, I followed the recipes from the magazine All You. You can find the recipes here. They use mostly ingredients you have around the house, especially if you make your own laundry detergent. I am loving the cleaners! I mainly use the all purpose and the glass cleaner. I even use the glass cleaner on the floor and then spray vinegar and water over it if leaves a little bit of a film. No harmful chemicals for your family to breath, and you can pick your own sent using essential oils.
I also mixed our own yogurt. I was tired of buying those little packs of yogurt and my kids go through them like crazy. Plus no added sugars. Found a recipe on pinterest. Pretty much you layer plain or greek yogurt, fruit (fresh, frozen, dried or a combo of all) yogurt and cereal. You can add jam or preserves as well. I did last time but probably won't with the next batch. The kids love it and it's cheap and more healthy. I bought the little Ball jars (a little bigger than baby food jars), and for the second batch I am using the plastic jar lids that they sell separately.
We made our own chocolate syrup, which Sterling said is better than the old kind. Maybe because he got to help. Our own laundry detergent, and I now also mix my own oatmeal instead of buying the instant.
All of it takes a little extra time. Well, maybe not considering the length of time it takes to go to the store and back with kids in tow. It is better for the family and is actually pretty satisfying knowing I can make my own.
I also made my own mosquito repellant. I haven't had a chance to use it yet to see if it works. But no DEET means that if it does, and pending they have no adverse allergy to one of the oils it will be safe for the kids. It smells pretty good, especially compared to regular bug spray, which means I will be less opposed to using it. I am a mosquito magnet and cannot walk outdoors after about 4 pm.
My favorite project thus far though has to be these little people.
| Rapunzel, Tiana, Ariel, Snow White, Cinderella, Belle, Ann Elizabeth | I |
I still have some princesses and other girl characters I want to add.
| Pirate, Green Lantern, Captain America, Robin, Superman, Ironman, Spiderman, Batman, Ninja |
I made Sterling and Ann Elizabeth a set, and they love them! I am also working on making some to sell as a fundraiser. I am working on Children Around the World, a nativity, pirate vs ninja checkers (or princess vs. fairies, ninjas vs. princesses, etc), maybe fairy tale sets, and customized families. I am really excited about the families because adoptive families run into the problem of finding dolls with families that look like their own. Where am I ever going to find a peach family with a brown kid thrown in? Nowhere!
We will see how many varieties I actually get to make. Because they do take some time, but they are lots of fun!

Oh my goodness. I think we've been living the same life here the last month. I've made laundry soap, been using vinegar and water, no shampoo, drying clothes outside and the peg people. Seth gets his set on Wednesday (his 3rd birthday)!
That is so crazy! We haven't done the no shampoo, but I am using watered down castile soap on the kids, to maybe help their eczema. Well, and I am using the dryer :)
Seth will LOVE the peg people. Sterling takes his everywhere. Ann Elizabeth actually likes his more, but I think that is because she knows they belong to him. I actually made them back in April and am just getting around to posting them. I think all of their little friends will be getting them this year for birthdays!
I really love those peg dolls! Especially the boy ones. They are adorable. I'd gladly purchase a set of those from you, as I am not much of a painter. :)
umm one set of each for my kiddos please!! they are absolutely adoreable!!!!
