No More Pacis

Sterling's paci has been limited to his bed for quite some time now.  He also has been bad about chewing on them to the point that they get holes.  We keep telling him that if he chews holes in them then we have to throw them away.  So, many a paci has found it's way into the trash because it looks like it has been gnawed on by a dog.

The other day Sterling forgot to drop the paci in the bed before he got up.  So, I playfully took his paci out and told him to quit chewing on it, because of course he was.  His response was, "Throw it away."  I explained that we didn't have to throw it away yet but if he kept chewing on it we eventually would.  He again told me to throw it away.  I told him I thought it was his last paci, because I really wasn't sure where another one was.  After continuing to insist on putting it in the trash, I finally gave in thinking I should cease the opportunity.

However, this was not how I was planning to give them up.  As long as he kept it in the bed I was really willing to let him keep it until about three, but after hearing him continuing to suggest we throw the paci away I thought maybe he was ready.

Well, I was wrong!  It was two full days of drama at bedtime/naptime and he still asks about it almost every time he goes to bed.  But I think he has finally decided that life is ok without the pacis.
